Review for If We Pretend

Reese didn’t have a great marriage, gets divorced, and her best friend gets engaged to her ex-husband. Quickly. I don’t know about you, but that is the end of that friendship for me. Not Reese. Her 16 year old daughter is going to soccer camp in Scotland so she decides to stay for a month. As luck would have it, so does her ex-husband and (should be former) best friend. Yea-gads, this girl needs to catch a break.

Oliver is the coach trying to get his life together for his son’s sake. Reese and Oliver have chemistry. Reese spills the ex’s story and Oliver suggests to fake date so she can avoid them… and that’s when the real fun starts. I liked how they grow from a friendship to more.

If you couldn’t tell, I cannot for the life of me understand how Reese allows herself to stay friends with what’s her name. I do know one thing for certain, I wouldn’t be hanging out with her (or the ex) on my month long vacation. Other than that – and yes, I realize this is a setup for the book’s sake – it was a good read that made me even more grateful for my life.

Chrissy Hopewell started sneaking her mom’s spicy romance novels in middle school. She has spent varying amounts of time overseas, including working at a pub in Dublin, waitressing at a hotel in the Scottish Borders, and studying and living in London for five years.
