Charlie Wags is a seemingly ordinary pup. He asks for belly rubs, plays fetch, and uses his “I’m innocent” look when he is in fact guilty.

But Charlie has an extraordinary secret. He loves to travel the world and has a special trick to do so: his wagging tail can whisk him away to far-off places.

This time, he’s off to Paris, France!

Embark on a panoramic tour of Paris led by ever-curious pup, Charlie Wags! From the elegant art in the Louvre to the sparkling Eiffel Tower, Charlie explores the City of Lights before returning home for bedtime.

Wherever you may be, The World Is Just a Wag Away ™

Review of Charlie Wags: Paris

I have the third book in The Tales of Charlie Wags Series in my hands! Charlie is the cutest pup I’ve ever seen and was so fortunate to have him back in the studio for another interview.

Check out The Tales of Charlie Wags: New York City here.

Check out The Tales of Charlie Wags: London here.

This book is like a vacation and a field trip all wrapped up in one adorable package! From the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame and the Louvre, we tagged along with Charlie on a whirlwind tour of Paris—no passport required. The story is simple enough to keep the littles hooked, but honestly? I was just as into it. The illustrations are spot-on and brought the city to life in such a fun, vibrant way. It had us all dreaming of fresh croissants and our next adventure. Can’t wait to see where Charlie takes us next!

About the Author

Sister-author duo Ali Barclay and Sofie Wells form the writing team behind The Tales of Charlie Wags picture book series. The series offers young explorers a conversational understanding of the world’s most famous cities.

As daughters of immigrants, their family heritage exposed the sisters to the importance of cultural diversity early on. Their parents prioritized showing them the world, even on a tight budget. This instilled in them the idea that travel is one of the best forms of education.

Recognizing that not all children had the chance to explore the world firsthand, Sofie and Ali saw an opportunity to share their travel experiences with other families and children through charming stories that make far-off places accessible.

About the Illustrator

Sanna Sjöström, also known as Sannadorable, is based in Sweden and creates stunning digital watercolor illustrations.

Sanna has loved art her whole life and has plenty of experience painting with watercolor. When she had children, she didn’t have the time or energy to pull out all the necessary supplies to paint. She found that her iPad was accessible in just seconds; so, she started mimicking watercolor digitally.

She now illustrates for children’s books, but also creates posters, cards, and digital illustration tools. Her biggest inspiration comes from flowers and nature. Sanna’s mission is to brighten your day and make you smile through her art.

Interview with Charlie Wags

Kim: Charlie Wags! It is fantastic to see you again. Bonjour.

Charlie: Enchanté, mademoiselle!

Kim: I can’t wait to talk about your latest adventure…Paris! This city has it all; love, fashion, art, lights, history, and food. Where should we start?

Charlie: Well, I am a dog, so…food! Always food. I followed my nose to six bakeries before breakfast. Paris smells like dreams and butter and maybe… heaven?

Kim: Oh Charlie, you’re a dog after my own heart! I just read an interesting book about how the Louvre was built. What did you think of the Glass Pyramid?

Charlie: Oh, très fancy! I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to admire it or dig under it. I did both.

Kim: Way to go Charlie! Was Mona Lisa a little creepy with her eyes following you all the time?

Charlie: I just thought she was sizing me up for a belly rub. I gave her my best puppy eyes—but she didn’t blink once! Which, of course, started a staring contest. I lost.

Kim: If you were an artist, what would you make? My signature doodle is an elephant.

Charlie: I’m so glad you asked—I’ve been thinking about this all day. I’d paint a giant mural of every treat I’ve ever eaten. Abstract bones. Impressionist bacon. A croissant in the shape of the Eiffel Tower. Très gourmet!

Kim: You have a one track mind. Adding maps of your adventure city is a wonderful idea (and makes me want to visit again).

Charlie: Merci! I thought it’d be fun to follow my paw prints through Paris! Just try not to trip over the same café chair I did.

How many steps?

Kim: Haha. We drove by the Arc de Triomphe but had no idea you could walk to the top. How many steps are there?

Charlie: 284! And I climbed every single one…with a snack break at step 173.

Kim: Your poor little paws must’ve needed a massage after that. Did you get a paw-dicure?

Charlie: Oh yes. Warm soak, gentle scrub. I felt so fancy I didn’t even chase my tail for a whole hour.

Kim: I see the shops had baguettes, croissants, and éclairs. Wow! I couldn’t have passed up the éclairs. Did you try them all?

Charlie: I tried to just sniff them, I really did!!! But next thing I knew, the éclair was gone and I had chocolate on my nose. (shrugs)

Kim: (chuckling) With all of the outdoor cafes, I bet it was fun to people watch. I mean pooch peek…

Charlie: The outfits! The scarves! The tiny glasses of espresso! I tried to blend in, but my wagging tail knocked over two plates and a cappuccino.

Palace of Versailles

Kim: You should have asked for a pupuccino! I’ve been to the Palace of Versailles and agree it’s phenomenal. The gardens are breath taking. The palace is huge! Can you imagine cleaning all those mirrors?

Charlie: No way! I’d be too spooked by the reflections. I barked at my own 14 times…and then someone gave me a baguette to calm down. It worked.

Kim: You must gain ten pounds (ooops, sorry) on these adventures. I have a thing for chandeliers – I would like to discover each and every one. What did you hope to discover? Was it a fire hydrant? tee hee

Charlie: There were so many treasures! Shiny crowns, huge mirrors, golden everything… but no squeaky toys? Odd for people who “had it all.” I checked under cushions and behind curtains—just in case. No such luck!

Kim: Did you know there is a hidden door in Louis XIV’s room? His chambermaid came in, opened the curtains, and presented him every morning. Everyone watched as he woke up and got dressed. What a miserable way to start the day! What is your morning routine?

Charlie: Oh, you know. I roll over dramatically, stretch like I just ran a marathon, then give my humans the look. You know the one—“Feed me or I chew your slippers.”

Kim: You wouldn’t! Would you? Are you a morning pup or a night owl? I mean… a night hound?

Charlie: Morning pup! That’s when the croissants are warm and the squirrels haven’t figured out their escape routes yet. pants happily

City of Lights

Kim: That’s one way to look at it. Why do they call Paris the city full of lights?

Charlie: Well, it does sparkle—but it’s also because Paris was one of the first cities to have glowing streetlights! So even at night, the whole city shines. Just like my eyes when I find a snack under the couch.

Kim: Isn’t the Eiffel Tower one of the most astonishing sights you’ve ever seen?

Charlie: It’s so tall! I tried to see the top, but my head kept tilting… and tilting… and then—whoops—I fell over. (I’m okay.)

Kim: Did you go to the top? Tell me about the view!

Charlie: I did! You can see rooftops, gardens, and tiny people who look like ants. I waved, just in case they were waving too.

Kim: That was some good thinking. So far, I’ve been to your adventure cities. I haven’t been to Egypt or Australia, do you think you’ll be wagging there anytime soon?

Charlie: Haha, Kim! No, I’m going to…wait a minute…

Kim: You caught me Charlie. Yes, I’m trying to find out where your next book will take place!

Charlie: Ah ha! Nice try, but I’m too quick! Have you even seen me play fetch? But do stay tuned—I never stop in one city for long!

Kim: I have a treat with your name on it. Do tell! (Charlie has his paw over his mouth – I can’t take the puppy dog eyes and give him the treat anyway)

I’ve taken enough of your time. Merci for stopping by. Au revoir.

Charlie: Merci beaucoup! Or as I like to say… au revoir, and au wag!

Charlie Wags just makes my day!
