This book hits hard. Through Charlotte’s story, we see just how devastating the opioid crisis is—not just for one person, but for an entire family. At first, it seems like she’s found her happy ending in love, but oh boy, you can see that trainwreck coming from a mile away. Instead of lifting her up, her addict husband drags her down, and the contrast between life before and after him is gut-wrenching. Every family member copes differently, which makes the story feel even more real and layered. It’s raw, heartbreaking, and powerful—a tough but important read that stays with you. Compelling writing showcases the epidemic of opioid addiction.

About The Author

Lisa K Friedman is an award-winning essayist, author and educator whose work appears in newspapers and magazines around the country. She holds a MA degree in Fiction from the Johns Hopkins University Graduate Program and a BA in American Literature from George Washington University. She teaches creative writing for adults and children, and mentors professional and beginning writers in the art of fiction. When she is not writing, Lisa is sailing on a sunfish with her dog at the bow.
