A young girl and her Aunty set sail on their river raft, basking in each other’s company and in the beauty of the world around them. Along the way, they pass friends and families caring for one another—sharing food, tending wounds, celebrating birthdays, and telling stories—who ultimately join them in cleaning litter and trash from the river. A moving picture book about compassion, community, and caring for our shared world.

Review of Ripples

This picture book feels like a peaceful float down the river. The illustrations are bright, detailed, and full of little moments that make every page fun to linger on, from birthday parties to family picnics along the shore. I loved the sweet bond between Ayla and her aunt, especially as they work together to help clean the river and protect the animals that call it home. The story shares an important message about caring for nature, but it does it in such a warm, thoughtful, and gentle way that young readers will easily connect with it.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book to share my opinion.
