Ode to a Pug: I’m a BIG Dog Interview
Hi Pug! I’m Dawson, my mom shared your paws-itively amazing book. First things first… Congratulations! I’m so happy for you becoming a star in your own book (and a little green with envy, too). I have to ask: how do you feel about belly rubs during interviews?
Are interviews allowed to happen without them? I think it’s pretty obvious that the only thing better than belly rubs during interviews is treats. Did you say there will be treats? I want some treats!
We live near my dog park and get to walk. But we don’t have fun toys like you do – which is your favorite?
So many! Balls and slides and zoomies are so much fun, but my favorite thing to do is play tug because you get to pull on the rope with your friends. Those Frenchies and Bijons are no match for me and Pom. Pug Power!
What was going through your mind the first time you saw the BIG dog park? My sister was a very brave small dog, but I’m a scaredy cat.
Pugs are small but mighty, so I thought I’d fit right in at the BIG dog park. There were so many new things to play with, and the big dogs looked like they were having tons of fun. Somebody said we weren’t supposed to be in there, but pugs are not known for being the best listeners.
Small but Mighty!
Did any of the big dogs surprise you by being nicer or more fur-midable than you expected?
Everyone was super nice, except I felt like one of the balls I play with at home; I was getting bounced around all over the place. I don’t think they even knew I was there. I’m not going to be ignored! Pugs are always the center of attention, so I felt a little left out.
What’s the most ruff or embarrassing thing that happened to you at the dog park?
Um, let’s just say Pom and I weren’t expecting to see that…um… “gift” from the Great Dane. Eww!!
If you could rename the BIG dog park, what would you call it?
Giant Park of Big Dogs and Fun Things to Do, but Probably Not the Best Place for Me and Pom. Or Newfie-ville. Or maybe Highway to the Great Dane-ger Zone.
Dane-ger Zone is the best LOL! What made you keep going even when things felt a little over-paw-ering?
Nobody puts Puggie in the corner! Maybe it’s just my pug stubbornness, but nobody tells me I can’t do something! Well, maybe Mom. Or anyone with treats.
Puggie in the Corner LOL!
Did you learn anything about yourself during your adventure?
There’s nothing wrong with being a small dog. In fact, it’s great! I love being a small dog. You try getting unlimited lap-time as a Newfie or Shepherd!
I think being a small dog is paw-some. I get to cuddle in mom’s lap and sleep in her bed. Do you think being small is actually a super-paw-er?
It’s totally a superpower. I even get to fly! When I’m barking too much at the mailman, or the delivery guy, or the wind, or the sun, or the neighbor’s cat, or at my tail, or at dogs on TV, or tin foil…Mom picks me up and carries me from one place to another. Some people call it air jail, but I call it flying!
Do you still think the grass is greener on the other side?
No. Especially where the Great Dane went.
What tail-tale would you tell another little dog who feels left out?
Be proud of who you are. Every dog is special no matter your size or shape, although obviously I’m the cutest. Be yourself and you’ll always find a way to have fun. And remember, Mom loves you!
What is your favorite snack after a long day at the park? Something drool-worthy, I hope!
Treats! Big treats, small treats, round treats, square treats. I smell treats! Treats after the park. Treats before the park. Treats from Mom’s hand. I kind of love all treats.
Let’s Wrap this Up
If you had your own park, what rule would you make first?
The first rule of dog parks is everyone gets a treat! A treat when you enter, a treat when you leave, and a treat whenever you want one. I like food. Oh, and no poops left behind!
Pug, final question… BIG dreams or cozy naps—which one makes your tail wag more?
A nap on mom’s lap with a loud snore is the best way to finish a day. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Thank you so much Pug for taking the time out of your busy schedule for this interview. Now, go get a belly rub, you deserve it!
