Okay, so if you’ve been seeing this book everywhere lately, you’re not alone—and guess what? It totally lives up to the hype. Though it’s technically labeled as sci-fi, it reads more like a slow-burning, twisty mystery with a time-travel twist and a whole lot of emotional depth.

The setup? Four strangers, one tragic night from the past, and a company offering a single, bittersweet hour back in time. But there’s a catch (of course): you can’t change a thing. Yep—no fixing mistakes, no do-overs. Just 60 minutes to revisit the moment everything fell apart. Painful? Yep. Compelling? Absolutely.

Told through multiple POVs, the book slowly peels back the layers of each character’s life. Their secrets, their grief, and the way their stories eventually intersect make for one heck of a payoff. Sure, the pacing takes its time, but trust me, the emotional build-up is worth it.

Dete Meserve is a bestselling author of five novels and an award-winning creator and producer of films and television series. She adapted her debut novel, Good Sam, into a screenplay and produced it for Netflix. Her passion for storytelling stems from her work as the owner of Silver Creek Falls Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based production company, where she has produced everything from big-budget dramas and mysteries to star-studded comedies and animated series.

When she’s not writing or producing, you can often find her exploring nature or browsing the shelves of her local bookstores and libraries. A Chicago native, Meserve has lived most of her life in Los Angeles, where she and her husband have raised three children—and two very pampered cats.
