To Mimi’s House We Go is a Christmas-themed picture book perfect for children from three years and up. The story celebrates the joy of going to grandma’s house for the holidays – no matter what name she goes by and no matter where she lives. The fun, rhyming verses are a riff on the classic Christmas tune, Over the River and Through the Woods. But in this story, the grandmother lives in a lighthouse, or on houseboat, or in a cabin in the forest, or in a brownstone in the city, and the grandchildren who go to visit her use different modes of transportation to get to her place, depending on where she lives. It might be a subway or a ferry or a mini-van or an airplane. And when they get to her place they know they will be welcomed with hugs and cocoa and everything that makes them feel loved, safe, and cherished.

Review for To Mimi’s House We Go

What a beautiful cover enclosing a wonder adventure to Mimi’s House. It’s quite the trip with all kinds of escapades. Not only do they go over the river and through the woods – but they eat pancakes, go on bike rides, take a motorboat and snowmobiles, and roast marshmallows. It lost us at the smell of roasted duck (we have a pet duck) but redeemed itself with a lighthouse! On-the-go illustrations showcase the text beautifully. The star on top of the tree is the book is dedicated to her grandchildren.

About The Author

About the Illustrator

Mette Engell is a self-taught children’s illustrator and surface designer. She grew up in northern Zealand, the largest island of Denmark, and studied biology at the University of Copenhagen, where she earned her master’s degree in marine biology. She has always loved creating stories and characters, so after her first child was born, she picked up her pencil and hasn’t put it down since. Today she lives by the ocean with her husband and their three kids, two cats, and a lionhead bunny.
