Veronica Stratton, a specialty food broker with a business on the cusp of brilliant success that would change the trajectory of her life, visits her parents in idyllic Estes Park for Christmas. But with the holiday comes a DNA test from her younger sister that confirms her secret suspicions: she’s adopted. Having the truth out in the open leaves her unmoored, despite her assurances that her biological parentage doesn’t matter.

With her life in upheaval, Veronica is looking for an escape. Inspired by her best friend, she plans to visit Europe to see four places listed on her DNA ancestry report. She treks to County o in Ireland, the Dordogne region of France, the countryside of Lombardy in Italy, and Copenhagen, Denmark. She hopes to learn a bit about where her family lived and to make more connections for her struggling business, but she finds that each stop brings her visions of her ancestors that raise more questions than they answer. And among those pressing questions is how charming Irish castle keeper Niall Callahan will fit into her visions for the future.

Aimie Runyan is a gifted author. Her characters are dotted with layers, making them interesting while consistently growing throughout the journey. The way she weaves historical tidbits into the story makes it even more authentic.

Veronica loves the food world and has been encouraged to have her own restaurant. On a holiday family trip, her sister gifts DNA tests to everyone. Veronica always had an inkling she was adopted, and now the secret is out. She takes a trip to Europe and immerses herself in the food, the culture, and the people. With so much time on her hands, she reevaluates her life and discovers what is missing and what she wants. Ultimately, she concludes that family is more than DNA; it’s the people who have been there for you, blood or not.

About The Author

Aimie K. Runyan writes to celebrate history’s unsung heroines. She has been honored as a Historical Novel Society Editors’ Choice selection, as a three-time finalist for the Colorado Book Awards, and a nominee for the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writer of the Year. Aimie is active as an educator and speaker in the writing community and beyond.
